Fillings

Fillings

Fillings are most commonly used in order to prevent further damage to a tooth when decay is present. By removing the bacteria and closing off the affected area, further decay is halted.

Here at Beggarwood we offer options for fillings, on the NHS and privately. The dentist will give an honest and professional opinion on what they think would be best suited for each patient based on individual cases and circumstances and discuss this with you. You will be treated with the utmost care and consideration no matter how big or small the treatment is.

Tooth extractions

Extractions

We know the value of a healthy smile and we do our best to make sure yours lasts a lifetime.

If a tooth is decayed or damaged and cannot be repaired with a filling or crown then the dentist may advise removal of the tooth. This decision is never an easy one to make and the dentist will only make this decision as a last resort. However, we will talk you through all of the possible options before any decision is made about extracting teeth. We like to ensure all our patients are happy and understand what treatment is being proposed.

We also undertake extractions for orthodontic purposes, if the orthodontist has requested the removal of teeth before any braces work can be fitted.

If the dentist finds that an extraction within the general practice setting would not be suitable, the reason will be discussed and agreed with you before we will send a referral off for this to be done.

Root Canal Treatment

If an infected tooth is left untreated for too long, pain can increase dramatically and lead to an abscess around the infected tooth.

The aim of root canal treatment is to prevent teeth from being extracted. Usually this can be undertaken in general practice, however in some cases if the tooth anatomy appears complex, we can refer you to a specialist endodontist.

This is usually on a private basis. Rest assured we aim to work with all of our patients in order to ensure you receive the best possible care and outcome.

Hygienist Treatments

Good dental hygiene includes fluoride treatments, gum care, digital X-rays, flossing and interdental cleaning.

Our Dental Therapist Danny Hosking performs the Dental Hygiene appointments here at Hedge End Dental.

Danny has recently completed an Advanced course in treating Gum Disease (Periodontal Disease).

To improve both comfort and clinical results, we’ve invested in the latest EMS Prophylaxis Master, which provides heated water for sensitivity relief.

We’ve also invested in the latest EMS Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) Airflow Machine – the most advanced prophylaxis system available today.

Using warm water and a gentle erythritol powder, it removes plaque, harmful bacteria, and stubborn stains far more effectively than traditional methods — helping to prevent gum disease, bad breath and tooth decay. This is an optional upgrade and available at an additional fee per session.

Benefits include superior stain and biofilm removal, improved bad breath, a more comfortable clean and it is ideal for sensitive teeth, implants, and braces.

Personalised Brushing Advice – Bring Your Toothbrush!

To help you get the most out of your at-home oral care, we now encourage all patients to bring their toothbrush to hygiene appointments.

Your hygienist can provide a personalised demonstration on the best brushing techniques, tailored specifically to your teeth and gums, so you can maintain great results between visits.

Please feel free to speak to Danny or any of our friendly team if you have any concerns around gums disease, bad breath or bleeding gums.
